Students from Mining Engineering department of AKS University VISIT TO NARWAPAHAR MINE OF UCIL.

Satna। Students from Mining Engineering department of AKS University (B.Tech VI Semester and Diploma (MMS) VI Semester) visited the Narwapahar Uranium Mine & Jaduguda Uranium mines operated by Uranium Corporation of India Limited. The group, consisting of 22 students (17 from B.Tech and 5 from Diploma including 7 girls), was accompanied by Prof. P. K. Palit. The mine is located in Jharkhand, approximately 13 km from Tatanagar. The study tour took place over three days, from April 23 to April 25, 2026.On April 23rd, the students began their visit at the Information Centre, where they learned about the advantages and hazards of radiation, threshold limit values (TLV), and examined various uranium-bearing rock samples.

They were also introduced to the final product, “yellow cake” dispatched to NFC, Hyderabad, and the monitoring instruments used by mine personnel. Additionally, they observed a model of the mine, learned about the zero discharge system for mine water, and viewed photographs illustrating different stages of mining and milling. Later, they visited the underground crushing station and a working stope operated using the cut-and-fill method. Here, they were briefed on stoping techniques, drilling operations, and mucking using LHDs.On April 24th, the students toured several facilities including the Health Physics Unit (a unit of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre), the Planning Cell, Survey Department, Vocational Training Centre. They went down into the mine via the 7-degree access decline to the 45-meter level level, where they observed the loading station, dust suppression techniques, and cross-cuts leading to the first level. After returning to the surface, they visited the stowing plant. On April 25th, they visited the mill at Jaduguda, where the flow diagram was explained to them and they observed the different operations in the mill from crushing to final product sealing. There after they visited the Rescue Room cum Refresher Training (RRRT) where they obtained firsthand information on the latest rescue equipment like BG4, whose different parts and their purpose was explained to them by the In-charge. The students also paid their homage at Runkini Mandir, a revered temple in the area that attracts numerous devotees each day. The visit ended with their visit to the famous Jubilee Park of Tatanagar on the last day, which was a holiday. Management of Aks University appreciated this visit and praised faculties who arranged the visit.
