Satna: Students of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at AKS University, Satna, accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), accredited by NAAC, and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), successfully conducted a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) programme in Semri Dubey village of Unchehara block. The initiative was aimed at providing students with practical exposure to rural development, agricultural systems, natural resource management, and community participation.

During the programme, the students, with active participation from the villagers, prepared social and resource maps and carried out a detailed assessment of the village’s agricultural system, demographic profile, basic infrastructure, natural resources, and major developmental challenges. They also interacted with farmers and local residents to collect information on agricultural production, irrigation, livelihoods, education, healthcare, and other aspects of rural development.

The students stated that the primary objective of the Participatory Rural Appraisal was to identify local resources, community needs, and development challenges through active participation of the villagers, thereby helping formulate practical and sustainable development strategies. The exercise enabled them to bridge classroom learning with field experience while gaining first-hand knowledge of rural society and agricultural practices.
Villagers enthusiastically participated in the programme and shared valuable suggestions for the overall development of the village. Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. A. K. Bhowmik, emphasized that practical field-based learning is an integral part of agricultural education. He noted that such activities foster scientific thinking, social responsibility, leadership qualities, and problem-solving skills among students.
The University’s Chancellor B. P. Soni, Pro-Chancellor Er. Anant Kumar Soni, Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. A. Chopade, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Development) Dr. Harshvardhan Shrivastava, and Registrar Dr. R. S. Tripathi appreciated the initiative and stated that direct engagement with rural communities equips students to become competent, socially responsible, and professionally skilled agricultural experts capable of contributing meaningfully to rural and agricultural development.
