AKS University, Satna marked World Soil Day on 5 December 2025 with dignity, scientific spirit, and enthusiastic participation. The event opened with an address by Dr. Sugyata Shivhare, Head of the Department, who underlined the critical importance of soil conservation for the future of agriculture, ecological balance, and human well-being. She also extended a warm welcome to all guests and participants.
The first speaker, Dr. Sanjay Srivastava — Scientist at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research–Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal, and In-charge of the All-India Soil Testing–Crop Response Project — delivered an insightful lecture on “Soil Health Management in India.” He emphasized that maintaining soil health through scientific and sustainable practices has become indispensable for long-term agricultural productivity.
The second speaker, former Professor at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, Dr. V.N. Mishra, spoke on the theme “Healthy Soil–Healthy Life.” He pointed out that soil is not merely the basis of crop production but a foundational element ensuring the safety of the entire environment and human life.
The third speaker, Dr. T.D. Sahu, Professor at Ravendra Singh Verma Agriculture College and Research Centre, Bemetara, presented a detailed overview of the history, objectives and global relevance of World Soil Day. He noted that soil conservation is a collective responsibility of society and stressed the need for widespread awareness.
Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr. A.K. Bhoumik, and Director (Research), Dr. Neeraj Verma, also addressed the gathering. They highlighted the growing significance of soil research and sustainable agricultural systems, calling them essential pillars for the future. The presence of Heads of Departments of Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Genetics and Plant Breeding and Agriculture Economics, with the presence of other faculty members of agriculture further enriched the programme.
Faculty members of the Soil Science Department — Dr. Shouvik Ghosh, Atul Singh, G.P. Dwivedi, Sumit Tiwari and Vaishali Pandey — along with numerous students played an active role in ensuring the success of the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks. The 2025 World Soil Day celebration at AKS University emerged as an enlightening and inspiring platform for students, enhancing their understanding and sensitivity towards soil conservation.
